LBN’S The Spotlight – Outdoor Dining Mid-Summer

LBN’S The Spotlight – Outdoor Dining Mid-Summer

In this new feature called Spotlight, we’re discussing outdoor dining spots in our communities. We talked about several different places, including Sante Wine Tasting Room and Cannalle in Farmington, Adachi in Birmingham, Como’s in Ferndale, and Hamlin Pub in Clarkston and Rochester Hills. Sante has a small patio with four tables that is dog-friendly and faces the street. Cannalle, a bakery, has a long patio alongside the building, shielded from the main street. Adachi is a Japanese-inspired restaurant with a nice patio out front, featuring greenery and trees. Como’s has a large patio that can seat 348 people, with plexiglass and heaters to extend its season. Hamlin Pub has comfortable patios at its Clarkston and Rochester Hills locations, which serve as extensions of the restaurant and include heaters and umbrellas.

Birmingham Day on the Town

Birmingham Day on the Town

Sheri Hunter from the Birmingham Shopping District stopped by to tell us about Day on the Town in downtown Birmingham on July 26 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. She said they like to say it’s “upscale on sale.” The event features discounted merchandise from more than 60 retailers, plus a free ice cream truck, boxed lunches from Marrow and dozens of restaurants with patio dining. Browndog Creamery

Browndog Creamery

Paul Gabriel, co–owner of Browndog Creamery, stopped by to tell us about this unique business, which combines fun ice cream flavors with a full-service bar. The production house in Oak Park is where all the small-batch ice cream is made, including the popular salty dog and kookie for cookies flavors and the new flavors that incorporate Better Made snacks and Faygo soda. The Northville “barlor” serves up ice cream, craft cocktails and a full food menu for dining, and the Lansing location has ice cream and food. You can order Browndog ice cream online and find pints in grocery stores as well.

Hamlin Pub

Hamlin Pub

Hamlin Pub has been a welcoming sports bar and restaurant since it opened in 1992, starting with its original location in Rochester Hills, and now with another Rochester Hills location, plus locations in Clarkston and six other metro Detroit communities. Co-owner Jim Tavano told us about the eatery’s original chicken dumpling stew, plus favorites like salmon, pizza and wings. There’s also a fresh summer menu, featuring lighter fare like pesto shrimp scampi and red, white and blue salad. The pubs have 24 to 30 beers on draft, a wine list and specialty cocktails like voodoo buckets with flavored rums and fresh juices. Come out to have dinner or enjoy a sporting event, like the UFC Fighting events you can watch live at the Clarkston location and three other Hamlin Pub locations.

Too Ra Loo has doors that open up to make it an open air restaurant, but it also has a small patio with four tables.
