LBN’S The Spotlight – Outdoor Dining

LBN’S The Spotlight – Outdoor Dining

In this new feature called Spotlight, we’re discussing outdoor dining spots in our communities. We talked about three different places, including North End Tap Room in Royal Oak, Rochester Mills Beer Co. in Rochester and Too Ra Loo in Rochester. North End has a small patio that’s an extension of the self-serve tap room. Rochester Mills has a large covered patio for first-come, first-serve seating, with a small open air area. Too Ra Loo has doors that open up to make it an open air restaurant, but it also has a small patio with four tables.

Witch Topokki

Witch Topokki

In April, a new dining concept launched in Troy: Witch Topokki, featuring Korean street food. Diners choose different rice cakes or noodles, sauces, protein, vegetables and more, and then cook everything on a hot plate. There’s also a range of items like Korean chicken to choose from, plus fresh fruit and ice cream for dessert. The eatery offers a full bar, plus cocktails like Asian draft beer, sake, soju and more. Enjoy watching your favorite sports game while you eat, or simply enjoy several helpings of your creations for lunch or dinner.

Kevin Sell, one of the owners of Barb’s Pizza and Pasties in Clawson, stopped by to tell us about the business’s 41st anniversary this year. Barb’s claim to fame is Upper Peninsula-style pasties, including beef, chicken and veggie, plus pizza, cabbage rolls, carrot cake and other from-scratch dishes. The family business uses the same recipes it’s used since it started with his mother cooking pasties for neighbors. One recent addition is the ability to order Barb’s via Door Dash. Order online or via phone to pick up in store. You can even get frozen pasties to cook later.
